About UsYou are an important part of our program! Our goal is to work together to create great music, experiences, and help build skills to make each student a more independant and creative musician. I am excited to get started on our journey together! Please use this website to check for chorus happenings, events, homework, recordings, and enrichment links.
The Fremont Vocal Music Program began in 2012 when the district wrote and received a grant through the Illinois Arts Council. In the program's first year, there were 30 students registered for the program. Now, the program has over 160 students registered across eight different classes to form three grade level choirs and five extra-curricular groups! |

Our class will use a number of different means to learn to perform and read music. There will be assignments that are written, assignments that involve individuals performing, and also use of technology to complete and submit assignments. Please be sure you check your google classroom page for assignments!
Please note that each grade has three evening concerts. These are graded events. While we understand that there conflicts that cannot be avoided, the choir depends on each individual being present for performances. Please email Miss Karnick if you know that you will not be able to attend a concert and an alternative assignment may be given. If an alternative assignment is given, it will be due 2 weeks after the concert. Website
I love to communicate updates and information to students and parents. Please use this site as well as these other methods to keep up with Fremont Singer news. I will continue to edit the website which includes news, listening examples, videos, and enrichment links. Please feel free to email me any time at [email protected]. Also, I send frequent program updates via email. If you are a student or parent not already receiving emails please contact me at [email protected] and I will make sure you are on the list! Remind 101 I also send reminders via text. I mostly use this function for day of concert reminders, field trip communication, and other reminders that need to reach students and parents quickly. I never see your number. The program allows you to join my text list without having your number visible. You can text STOP to this number at any time to stop receiving messages. It is a safe, fun, and useful way to receive information. All concerts unless otherwise noted, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Students need to be dressed in concert attire and in the cafeteria by no later than 6:10 pm. Students will be called earlier in order to warm-up prior to the concert as a grade level choir.
Students are responsible for being at the concerts on the calendar. Much like a team, the ensemble depends upon each individual. Concerts are also a culmination of much classroom learning and is in part If a conflict, please let Miss Karnick know as soon as possible. An alternate assignment will be agreed upon between Ms. Karnick and the student and due two weeks following the concert date. Concert attire: For our more formal concerts (all evening concerts and some special ceremony concerts), students must wear all black. This includes black shoes, socks, pants/skirts/dress, and top. School dress code applies which means that skirt length needs to be appropriate. If a dress or top for girls has a strap a black sweater needs to be worn over it. Jewelry should be simple and minimal. For less formal performances, students will wear provided t-shirts and their own jeans. |
